General Information for Visa

 

TIMETABLE

Opening days: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

Opening hours for submitting applications: 10:00–12:00 (except Mongolian public holidays)

Opening hours for collecting visas: 16:00 – 16:15 (except Mongolian public holidays)

 

The Visa Section will be closed on the following Mongolian public holidays.

1 January (New year)

1-3 days of the Lunar Calendar New year (varies but commonly either in January or February)

8 March (International Women’s Day)

1 June (Children’s Day)

11-15 July (Naadam Festival-National Day)

29 December (Independence Day)

1st day of winter month of Lunar Calendar Chingis Khaan’s commemoration day (October or November)

Note: Due to its geographical location and altitude, Mongolian Lunar Calendar days may slightly differ from other Asian countries including Japan and China.

 

The following documents are required to apply for a Mongolian visa and they must be either in Mongolian or English language:

 

Tourist Visa with single entry for up to 30 days

Applicant is required to submit:

Passport-with a validity exceeding the applicant’s last day of stay by six months

Visa Application Form– fully completed, signed and dated

Photo-most recent ‘passport size’ one glued on the Application Form

Supporting Documents-Travel itinerary, hotel reservation. Travel insurance is recommendable. 

If you are visiting your family or you were a Citizen of Mongolia Tourist Visa does not fit your purpose, so please apply for Family visit Visa which is explained below.

Business/Official Visas with single/multiple entries

Applicant is required to submit:

Passport-with a validity exceeding the applicant’s last day of stay by six months

Visa Application Form– fully completed, signed and dated

Photo-the most recent ‘passport size’ one glued on the Application Form

Supporting Documents- invitation of the host approved by either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia or Immigration Authority of Mongolia. Please do not come to the Visa section without the endorsement from the said authorities. The travel itinerary, hotel reservation and insurance confirmation are required.

Family visit/Private invitation Visas with single/multiple entries

Applicant is required to submit:

Passport-with a validity exceeding the applicant’s last day of stay by six months

Visa Application Form– fully completed, signed and dated

Supporting Documents- invitation of the host approved by The Immigration Authority of Mongolia. Children under 16 must provide parental consent letter. Please do not come to the Visa section without the endorsement from the said authorities. The travel itinerary and insurance confirmation are required.

Transit Visa  

Applicant is required to submit:

Passport-with a validity exceeding the applicant’s last day of stay by six months

Visa Application Form– fully completed, signed and dated

Photo-most recent ‘passport size’ one glued on the Application Form

Supporting Documents-visa of the destination country. The travel itinerary and insurance confirmation are appreciated.

ON ARRIVAL VISA INFORMATION

On arrival visa may only be issued only if you are coming from countries where there is no Mongolian diplomatic mission. To get on arrival visa, you should have an inviter (private person or entity) to apply for your visa approval 14 days prior to the expected arrival in Mongolia.

  • For official “A” category on-arrival visa,

The inviting person/ entity should apply for your visa approval at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia (www.consul.mn)

  • For all other categories /including business trip and tourism/ of on-arrival visa,

The inviting person/ entity should apply for your visa approval at the Immigration Agency of Mongolia (www.immigration.gov.mn)

The following documents shall be provided by the inviting person/entity:

  • Official letter/request by the inviter (information on the intended itinerary and purpose of travel in Mongolia)
  • Copy of the entity’s certificate if the inviter is not
  • Copy of the passport of the traveler /valid period is not less than 6 months/
  • Travel program and copy of flight booking /round trip/
  • Fee 1000 tugrik (MNT) for each traveler

Please note that traveler shall pay the visa fee on arrival.

 

For applicants’ convenience, we accept applications submitted by:

1) The applicant him/herself

2) A person on behalf of the applicant, if applicant’s own authorization letter confirms

3)  Visa agencies such as Real Russia (http://realrussia.co.uk) and Almont (http://www.almonttravel.co.uk)

4) The Embassy does not have provisions to process visa applications sent by post

* Please note that we do not accept a cheque, credit/debit card or cash for the Visa fee and Service charge at our Visa Section. You have to pay or make a bank transfer to Embassy’s bank account.

Please bring the bank receipt or printed online transfer receipt as the confirmation.

Important notice

  1. A visa will be valid 90 days from the date of issue. Duration of stay in Mongolia will be maximum 30 days /for entry visa/ and it starts from the date of entry to Mongolia.
  1. A foreign national, who is going to apply for a visa with duration of stay more than 30 days, the Embassy will request for supporting documents such as an invitation of the host approved by either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia or Immigration Authority of Mongolia.
  1. A foreign national, holding other than the “HG” category visa, staying more than 30 days in Mongolia is required to be registered at the Immigration Authority within 7 days after the arrival in the country.
  1. The Embassy reserves the right to refuse a visa. In such cases, the fee and service charge will not be refunded as a common international practice.
  2. Applications sent by post shall not be processed. The applicant should come in person or apply through an authorized subject. Additionally, the applications can be lodged via visa agencies as Real Russia (http://realrussia.co.uk), Almont (http://www.almonttravel.co.uk) and others that strictly follow the Embassy’s visa requirements.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DOMESTIC PETS AT MONGOLIAN BORDER

The following documents are required:

➢ Pet Passport
➢ Medical certificate
➢ Vaccination 14 days prior to arrival
➢ No injection within 24 hours prior to arrival

If the above-mentioned requirements are not met, medical examination shall be carried out and if necessary, quarantine may be imposed.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR TEMPORARY ADMISSION OF MOTOR VEHICLES INTO MONGOLIA

According to national legislation following documents are required for foreign nationals, who are traveling with their vehicle to Mongolia:
1. Vehicle certificate
2. Passport of the vehicle owner (notarized authorization letter from the vehicle owner is required if the driver is not the owner of the vehicle)
3. Original copy if the vehicle has a Carnet document (CPD is an international customs document)
4. Contact details of the host/inviting entity in Mongolia (contact information if the inviter is an individual)
If the provided documents do not meet the requirements, vehicles are subject to customs clearance and tax deposit according to Mongolian law.
5. If the vehicle is approved to enter temporarily into Mongolia by the Customs authority, endorsement sheet, sealed with the customs inspection seal, will be issued to the traveler or vehicle owner
Traveler should keep the endorsement sheet in vehicle and return the sheet to the Customs authority when exiting the border.
6. The Customs authority have a right to take necessary actions if the vehicle temporarily entered into Mongolia is not taken out of the country.
