Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj addressed the opening of the UN Summit for the Adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on September 25, on the sidelines of his attendance to the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), running in New York, The USA.
In his speech, he underlined that the UNGA adopted a historic document, having outlined the guidelines of sustainable development for 193 UN members. The humanity now has more universal and unyielding vision towards development in the 15 years to come, he noted.
“Mongolia stands firm in its duty of international cooperation, and adheres to the common duty of maintaining peace and prosperity. The nations must put all efforts in achieving the fundamental objectives of the UN for promoting peace, cherishing human rights and for comprehensive economic and social development”, said President Ts.Elbegdorj.
This year’s UNGA has attracted about 120 heads of state, and many high-ranking officials. Also the Pope Francis addressed the annual UN General Assembly for the first time.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development consists of 17 goals and 169 targets, an accompanying Declaration, a section on the means, financial and otherwise, which will be required for achievement of the new goals and targets over the next fifteen years.
